My Word for 2020 + A Manifesto for Magic

My Word for 2020 + A Manifesto for Magic

Your word for 2020 is like an umbrella word for how you want to feel most of the time –– and HOW you want to experience your experiences this year.

It’s a touchstone for when to say, “Hell yes!” and when to say, “No, thank you.” It’s something you can navigate your year with.

To help you choose your “Core Desired Feeling” this year, follow Danielle LaPorte’s Desire Mapping process. Hers is a heart-centered approach to creating your life with intention.

Her main message is, you get to want what you want.

Hell yes!

Desire Mapping is how I came to my word for 2020: MAGIC.

Magic is my umbrella word for states like wonder, passion, gratitude, spontaneous joy, open-heartedness, and freedom.

My intention is to feel light, fully alive, in love, and connected to everything and everyone around me. When I experience those kinds of feelings, it feels like life is a huge gift, like life itself is magic.

It’s being part of a moment. Life-affirming. Positive. Expansive.

This quote from John Burroughs sums it up:

“To find the universal elements enough; to find the air and the water exhilarating; to be refreshed by a morning walk or an evening saunter; to be thrilled by the stars at night; to be elated over a bird’s nest or a wildflower in spring—these are some of the rewards of the simple life.”

I created a manifesto to capture the essence of my word for 2020: A Manifesto for Magic. Part affirmation, all desire, something to give you direction when you forget why you started.

Whatever your word for 2020 is, if you want to feel more alive and in love and in tune with nature, these words are for you.

Let them soak into your soul and inspire how you live, and love, every day.

Your word for 2020 is an umbrella word for how you want to feel most of the time and what you want to experience. It’s a touchstone for when to say, “Hell yes!” and when to say, “No, thank you.” Since my word for 2020 is MAGIC, I'm sharing my Manifesto for Magic with you. In case you want more magic in your life, too.

A Manifesto for Magic

I am a child of the universe, and I am grateful to be here.

I am one with the trees and the stars, and I know that I belong here.

I will pay attention to the life that's happening all around me, and know deep down that everything I see is part of me.

Life is a blanket that I wrap around me.

I want to listen to my body and look at the moon, and wake up to the sun rising in my own heart.

I want to follow my heart and be generous with my gifts.

I want to lead with love and let the unknown excite me, instead of frighten me.

I want to flow like a river, and be delighted by my own unfolding.

I want to swim in the miracle of the present moment.

I breathe so deeply, that I feel like life is breathing me.

I carry my desire so deeply in the pockets of my existence, so that I miss nothing.

I honor what I feel, and where I am.

I focus on what I want to watch grow.

I am available to the beauty that's still all around me, and the beauty that's ever blooming within me.

I will see people for who they are, and hold the space for them to bloom into who they can be.

I will honor the soul of every living thing.

I want my passion and my presence to be the most beautiful things about me.

I want to stand for love, and know that I'm standing on sacred ground.

I want to embody the kind of hope that never dies.

I believe I live in a universe that's full of possibility.

I trust my journey.

I will embrace hardship, even, as a chance to feel the way I want to feel.

I believe in a love that never ends.

I believe the light I keep inside.

I believe in my own ability to transform pain into something new.

I believe in the mystery and the magic of starting again.

I keep my heart open to wonder.

I am here for the miracle.

. . .

Tell me:

What's your word, your Core Desired Feeling, for this year? Or, what'd you love most about this manifesto?

Tell me how you want to feel in the comments. I'd love to know!

Wishing you love and an open door this year,

Jen

P.S. When you meditate on your hopes and intentions, think about effort and consistency over time. Not one big sweeping change (most things don’t happen like that). Think about meaningful progress, small victories, decisions you can be proud of, and moments that you’re fully part of.
