No More Suffering, a Poem about Freedom
There comes a point when you’ve had enough suffering. You still have pain, but you want no more suffering because of that pain. You want freedom. That’s what this poem is about. If you want to feel... lighter... read this. It might be exactly what you need to read today. So you can let go, and love better.
No More Suffering
Today I pray
That love works through me
So I can see another way.
There must be a better way.
Somewhere, the sun
Must still shine;
There, healing can happen
In all the dark corners
Of my mind.
To get there, I must be here,
And I must surrender my hands and feet
To love over fear.
I can only reach out
To those around me in peace–
Make a real change in the world–
If I start walking a better path
With my own two feet.
The earthly road I take next
Reflects the streets of my soul:
As within, so without.
To live a better life at all,
I alone must rise above my doubt.
Love cannot do for me
What it cannot do through me.
I’m ready to do my part
To heal the world today.
I’m ready rise above my pain
And see that I’m more
Than what happened yesterday.
I’m called to a purpose
Higher than my own–
I’m ready to be shown the way.
I believe no longer
In my illusions of fear;
Their suffering no longer is
Mine to bear.
I extend my perceptions
Beyond what my eyes can see,
And now I see clearly
How good my life can be.
My inner eye is opening
To the beauty in all things,
And slowly I find it easy to
Let go of all my needless
Suffering.
I thought I was the chaos–
The distracting thoughts,
Hardening into beliefs
That kept me stuck in pain and grief.
I’m ready to be free.
I’m ready to unlearn
What’s been making me heavy,
To switch up my perspectives,
And to soften into a new belief.
There’s something new to seek.
There’s an undisturbed peace within me,
An ineffable presence,
An unmanifested stillness
Where all answers lie
And all fears subside.
My faith breaks through
All my illusions,
Like a tiny flower through
A crack in cement.
Now I remember:
My value lies in the light within.
Now I see the broken pieces
Are ready to be healed.
I see how every break in my life
Can be sealed with a little light.
I’m not who other people
Say I am;
I am not the voices
In my head;
I am not the brokenness inside,
Not the suffering nor the dread.
I am not what happened
On any other day;
I am light.
I am light.
There’s something else at play.
I can learn how to live
In this new place,
With something more to see;
Music is playing here
That never before occurred to me.
It’s a different tune that life sings–
When suffering turns to peace,
And anger softens.
I’m learning that love is within,
And I am not without it;
Such peace does this new belief bring.
I surrender the chaos
Because it’s not mine to keep,
And it’s certainly not me.
I ask that it be transformed
Into the peaceful reassurance
Of who I was
Before I was born,
Before I believed it was me.
I know this new reality is
Who I’m meant to be.
Who I have always been–
I’m getting there.
With forgiveness I can see the thing
That’s inside me,
That doesn’t change with each shifting wind;
It’s free,
Unwavering,
At peace.
I’m getting closer to
Who I have always been.
Through forgiveness,
My salvation from suffering,
I’m opening a new door.
I see myself with another name.
In this new place,
Yet a familiar place,
I endure the pain
Of old ways, no more.
