7 Positive Messages to Fall Asleep with Tonight

Read these messages to get to that place where peace unfolds with grace and ease. This is the space where sleep comes naturally, where dreams take flight and you don’t have to be in control of how the universe proceeds. Fall asleep faster and easier tonight, using these messages to guide the way.

“True silence is the rest of the mind, and is to the spirit what sleep is to the body, nourishment and refreshment.” —William Penn

What if you trusted that everything was unfolding exactly as it should?

What if you actually enjoyed the journey, since, mostly, life is a journey?

A crucial element to living fully, openly, and joyously—as much as possible—is to practice trusting instead of fretting. Practice replacing “should” with something that feels better. Honor the steps you take as you take them. To live this life as fully as you can, while you're here as you are.

It’s easier to trust life’s unfolding nature if we’re grateful while we’re in it—grateful right here, in this place, for something.

Granted, it’s probably always (or at least mostly always) a good time to exercise trust and cultivate gratitude, but right before we fall asleep is the perfect time to practice.

So many people have trouble falling and staying asleep, so if that rings true to you, you are far from being alone. This is why I felt such a strong desire to share a set of messages that elicit hope and reverence—the energies and qualities that make falling asleep a whole lot easier.

You are meant to enjoy the calm, vibrant energy that comes with a restful night’s sleep. To help you enjoy that more often, starting tonight, here are seven heartfelt messages to contemplate as part of your pre-bedtime routine. See which one resonates most with you right now, and read it like it was written just for you.

7 Positive Messages to Help You Fall Asleep Easier

1. It is safe for you to rest.

To do, you must be. To get things done, you must soak up the energy of stillness. To fill your life with abundance and joy, you must know about space. You can give yourself that space. Each night—this night—is an opening into all the wonderful things that you can do, be, and have.

2. A thought can be changed. Courage can be grown.

That’s kind of how you grow too. Stay open and willing to see what can grow like new. Let the thoughts come and go, just don’t serve them tea.

“Don’t believe every worried thought you have. Worried thoughts are notoriously inaccurate.” — Renee Jain

3. You are allowed to be new.

“I am allowed to be new.” That feels so, so good.

Allow yourself to do, have, or be something new—something that might feel better for you. Let the nighttime be a reminder of your limitless capacity for change and renewal.

4. Maybe, it’s not your job to be in control.

Trying to be in control when it feels like utter resistance and force typically only breeds more resistance. Offer your willingness to trust instead, to do what you can do with love rather than doubt or angst. (Maybe, the first thing you can do with love is rest here, and allow peace to grow through the cracks in your heart.) That’s an offering the universe responds well to.

Each night, hand your worries over to the moon. Surrender your assignments. Release the need to control. Give your answers up to the stars. Grant yourself permission to access the wisdom of sleep. Tomorrow will be new.

5. You are are a resilient being. The proof is reflected in you being here.

All that, and you’re still standing. You are here. You are greater, deeper, more powerful than before because you are still here… still here. Still learning, unfolding, showing up. You fall asleep and you rise up again, garnering new strength each night. You are a star in the sky, and I honor you.

6. It’s okay to be what and where you are.

It’s okay to be confused. It’s okay to relax. It’s okay to not know everything. It’s okay to let the tears escape. It really, really is okay. See what it can be like to delve a little deeper into the questions without asking that they rearrange themselves into answers right away.

To be okay with being confused, dear heart, is enlightenment.

7. Go inward. There’s light there.

There’s so much worth discovering when you go inward, so many treasures that are just waiting to be revealed through your own compassionate explorations. There’s light inside, and there’s more beauty than you’ve probably given yourself credit for. Just a tiny glimpse of it, and you’ll start to see just how beautiful your transformations can be.
